The 2026 USSSA Makindye Division Qualifiers kicked off in emphatic fashion on Tuesday, with Kakungulu Memorial and Buziga Islamic emerging as the standout performers on Day One across the two venues of Buziga Islamic and Kibuli SS.
Kakungulu Memorial stamped their authority early, registering back-to-back victories to set the pace in the competition. They opened their campaign with a composed 2-0 win over St. Mbuga before replicating the same scoreline against St. Peter’s Nsambya. Their dominance was further underlined in a later fixture, edging St. Mbuga Vocational School 2-0 courtesy of goals from Mutebi Ivan and Badru Waid.
Equally impressive were hosts Buziga Islamic, who delivered one of the most dominant performances of the day with a ruthless 6-0 demolition of Gold Star High School. Ssendowoza Joseph, Kasozi Siraje, Walumu Juma, and Mugaya Shamil all found the net, while Idris Humudi bagged a brace in a commanding attacking display. Despite later falling 2-0 to Kibuli SS, Buziga’s earlier statement win firmly placed them among the early contenders.
Kibuli SS also made a strong case, collecting two important wins. They edged St. Peter’s Nsambya 2-1 before securing a solid 2-0 victory over Buziga Islamic, keeping themselves firmly in contention.
Elsewhere, St. Mbuga Vocational School bounced back from earlier setbacks to claim a 3-1 win over Gold Star High, while Gold Star endured a difficult start to the qualifiers with heavy defeats.
The Makindye Division qualifiers, which run until Saturday, will see teams battle for just three available slots to represent the division at the Kampala Region championships. With early momentum on their side, Kakungulu Memorial and Buziga Islamic have laid down a marker—but with several matches still to play, the race for qualification remains wide open.
