WHO DARED? Hooligans Deface, Peel Off M7 Posters in Mukono, Security Launches Massive Manhunt

Panic and fury has erupted in Mukono after unknown hooligans launched a brazen attack on President Yoweri Museveni’s campaign posters, peeling, tearing, and defacing every single one along a major stretch adjacent to St. Philip & Andrew’s Cathedral and the Uganda Christian University (UCU) area in Mukono.
They sliced through them one by one via the Bishop’s senior gate and all the way to the municipal area that connects to Nabuti road like a horror movie scene.
According to one fired-up vigilante resident, the destruction was not just random mischief but a calculated, hostile political statement.
“If they can do this to a poster, what will they do to someone wearing an NRM or President Museveni t-shirt? These are dangerous people. Bad-hearted. Brutal. They want to intimidate supporters,” the resident warned, vowing to form a local taskforce to track down the offenders.
VIGILANTE TASKFORCE
Not by security. Not by NRM. But by angry locals have vowed to form a taskforce who say they will hunt down the masterminds themselves.
“As security does her work, we are forming a patriotic taskforce. We hope to be joined by other equal minded Ugandans to ensure that vandalism of posters and intimidation of those who don’t support a particular political side stops. Such characters must be weeded out our electoral processes and our politics at large and society. Stay warned, never do it again! Whoever is behind it, we are coming for you.”
To this vigilante group, what happened wasn’t vandalism—it was a political assassination on paper — a bold, taunting message thrown right in the face of security agencies.
“But why would a normal, law abiding citizen do this? These are people who are trying to destroy our democracy. Spar hatred. Show Uganda is lawless. They are trying to defeat the purpose of campaigns. This also shows that their [political] side is not capable of giving Ugandans democracy. In-fact they show that if they were ones in charge no other person would be allowed to campaign or to pin their posters anywhere in the country,” another resident fumed.
“This matter is very serious and points to a bigger problem all over the country especially in areas which are deemed to be in support of President Museveni. The president is a nominated candidate like others and entitled to have publicity. So, if it is being done to him, then who is safe?”
Security sources — three separate ones — have confirmed to RedPepper that intel officers, detectives, and undercover operatives have already descended on Mukono to track down what they now believe could be a coordinated anti-M7 sabotage ring.
“We are investigating and we already have clues,” said a security source.
Remember — this comes months after 15 NUP supporters were dragged to court and remanded to Luzira for defacing Museveni’s posters in Busega. That incident was small. What happened in Mukono is scale, precision, message, timing — all pointing to a bigger, more organized group.
In July this year, Fifteen supporters and leaders of the National Unity Platform (NUP) were charged and remanded to Luzira Prison after allegedly defacing election posters of President Yoweri Museveni in Busega Kibumbiro Zone, Rubaga Division. The suspects, who include businesspeople, electricians, and boda boda riders, were presented before court on charges of “defacement of notices and posters contrary to Section 78(2) of the Presidential Elections Act.”

The accused—ranged from 19 to 40 years of age—were said to have willfully removed and destroyed Museveni’s posters on July 14, 2025. The charge sheet, signed by D/SP Kusiima Harriet and sanctioned by a magistrate, stated that the offence took place in the run-up to a planned visit to Kampala by the President.
Those charged include Sande Ddamba, Junior Amanya, Marvin Sendago, Moses Rwanguhayo, George Mukoza, Akram Ssenkumba, Diriisa Kintu, Alfred Kato, Vincent Kizito, Abdul Tamale, Ali Mweseiga, Peter Nsamba, Alex Kasagga, Fred Bisimugu, and Charles Lukyamuzi.
