Ven. Edward Mwesigwa, the Archdeacon of Kacereere Archdeaconry in the Diocese of Kigezi, has today advised independent candidates to stop confusing voters by asking them to support President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni when the party already has NRM flag bearers and other strong party loyalists who can speak for the partyHe made these remarks on 11/12/2025 while addressing mourners during the burial ceremony of the late Mzee Jack Bitarabeho, commonly known as Jack Hanyanja who was a radio caller in Kabale district. The service was held in Katooma, Mwendo Parish, Kitumba Sub-county, Ndorwa West in Kabale District.Ven. Mwesigwa said that some independents confuse the electorate when they claim to be mobilizing support for the President despite not being official members of the NRM.
He noted that when the President addresses rallies, he asks the public to vote for him and for all official NRM flag bearers, and does not direct voters to support independents. However, some independent candidates, when given the microphone at public functions, begin urging people to vote for the President, which he said causes confusion among voters. He advised that independent candidates should request votes for themselves without involving the President, leaving party mobilization to the NRM flag bearers and loyal party members. This, he said, would help voters make clear and informed choices.Ven. Mwesigwa made these comments after the current LC3 Chairperson of Kitumba Sub-county, Muhereza David Kato, who was defeated by Mr. Mannesseh Herbert in the last NRM primaries, took the microphone and told mourners that his votes had been stolen in the previous elections. He also asked people to vote for him and thereafter vote for President Museveni.Counsel Eliab Naturinda Mporera, the NRM flag bearer for Ndorwa West, advised the public to write balanced wills, especially when distributing land and other property to their children. He said many parents create future conflicts by distributing their property unfairly, leaving disputes among their families.Counsel Eliab thanked the late Jack Bitarabeho for setting a good example by fairly distributing his land among his children.Gerald Kibatenga, the Acting General Manager of Diocese of Kigezi Voice of Victory 96.2 FM and also the Finance & Administration Manager, described Jack as one of the station’s most loyal and consistent listeners. He said Jack regularly participated in call-in programs, offering insightful contributions that enriched the community. He added that Jack’s gentle nature, patriotism, and commitment to building a better society left a lasting impact, noting that the radio station will deeply miss his presence, his greetings, wisdom, support, and friendship.Kibatenga said that even during his sickness, Jack remained dedicated, calling to advise the station and showing great professionalism. He praised him as a man of truth whose wisdom and integrity always stood out.The late Bitarabeho passed away at the age of 73 after an illness related to spinal cord complications. He is survived by 9 children and 20 grandchildren.
