Former Presidential Press Secretary, Francis Onapito Ekomoloit, has passed away. The news of his death was announced on Friday morning by the NRM Vice Chairperson for Eastern Uganda, Flight Captain Mike Mukula, through social media.

“On behalf of the Teso community and the country at large, I hereby announce with deep sadness and pain the demise of our brother Hon. Onapito Ekomoloit, a veteran journalist and former Member of Parliament for Amuria County… Further details will be communicated later,” Mike Mukula shared on X (formerly Twitter).

Onapito began his journalism career at the Monitor newspaper before leaving the Namuwongo-based daily to co-found The Crusader. He served as a Member of Parliament for Amuria County during the 6th Parliament. Later, he was appointed as Presidential Press Secretary.

In 2006, he transitioned to the corporate world, taking up the role of Director of Legal and Corporate Affairs at Nile Breweries, a position he held for 17 years until his retirement last year. Following his retirement, he continued his association with the company as Board Chair.

Onapito’s contributions to media, politics, and the corporate sector will be remembered fondly by many. Further updates regarding his funeral arrangements will be shared in due course.
