In a memorable day of celebration, Vipers secured a 2-0 victory over Kenya’s Police on Saturday at St Mary’s Stadium in Kitende.

The international friendly was the pinnacle of the inaugural Vipers Day, an event packed with festivities and excitement for fans, players and other stakeholders alike.

The main match saw goals from new signings Kenneth Kimera and Gusto Mulongo, under the leadership of new coach Nikola Kavazovic.

Kimera, signed from Wakiso Giants, wasted no time making an impact, scoring in the sixth minute after receiving a well-timed pass from Allan Okello.

And his early goal set the tone for the match, igniting the crowd.

Despite several missed opportunities from either side, Vipers maintained their lead as they pressed for more.

Substitute Mulongo who had struggled to find rhythm, delivered the final blow in the 90th minute, finishing a setup from other substitute and new signing Nicholas Wadada.

This late goal cemented the Vipers’ victory and ensured a jubilant end to the match.

Karim Watambala came close to scoring twice, while Milton Karisa’s header from a Matsiko Grant cross narrowly missed the mark. The captain also had a chance to extend the lead but missed a crucial opportunity in the closing seconds.

Vipers Goalkeeper Jack Komakech played a key role in maintaining the clean sheet, making a vital save to deny a corner, while Police’s new signing Alfred Leku headed wide from a promising delivery.

The excitement of Vipers Day extended beyond the main match. An exhibition game between Club Legends and Fans saw the Fans triumph 2-1, with Yuda Mugalu scoring the Legends’ sole goal. This engaging match set a lively tone for the day’s celebrations.

The festivities included a dazzling five-minute fireworks display before the main event, creating an electrifying atmosphere.

Free food and drinks were provided, enhancing the celebratory mood.

Top Ugandan artistes Fik Gazza, Ykee Benda, Azawi, Gravity Omutujju, and Dr Jose Chameleone entertained the crowd with dynamic performances, adding to the day’s festive spirit.

In his address to the crowd, Club President Dr. Lawrence Mulindwa expressed his gratitude to fans, sponsors, and stakeholders for their unwavering support.

Mulindwa notably announced ambitious plans for the club, including the formation of a new academy to nurture young talent and the expansion of St Mary’s Stadium Kitende to better accommodate the growing fan base and improve the match-day experience.

The inaugural Vipers Day ushers the Venoms into a new season, and sets a challenge high for rivals including KCCA and SC Villa.
