Alleged crime kingpin Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala and his four co-accused are expected to appear in the High Court in Johannesburg on Thursday.
Matlala is accused of attempting to murder his former girlfriend, Tebogo Thobejane, taxi boss Joe Sibanyoni and music producer Seunkie Mokubung.
The pre-trial hearing has seen a number of postponements. This was due to Matlala’s defence team raising concerns about his incarceration at the Kokstad super-maximum prison and their inability to properly consult with him.
During his previous court appearance, Vusimuzi Matlala’s legal team indicated that they intend to apply for bail based on new facts.
The court also ordered the Department of Correctional Services to provide a room at the Kgosi Mampuru prison, where Matlala and his defence team could consult without obstruction.
This, after they told the court that they find it difficult to consult due to the thick glass separating them in prison.
Acting Judge William Karam has indicated that the pre-trial hearing will go ahead as planned despite other issues that might arise from the attempted murder accused and his defence team.
