Kampala- Three days after Justice Alfonse Owiny Dollo has retired from Judiciary service as the Chief Justice, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni utilizing the powers provided to him by the Constitution of Uganda, has nominated Deputy Chief Justice, Dr. Flavian Zeija to lead the Judiciary.

“Parliament’s Committee on Appointments chaired by Speaker @AnitahAmong is currently vetting the Hon Justice Flavian Zeija, who has been nominated by President Museveni for appointment as Chief Justice.” Parliament of the Republic of Uganda confirmed on Thursday morning via its official Social media platforms.
In February 2025, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni appointed Zeija who was the Principal judge as Deputy Chief Justice, replacing Justice Richard Buteera who had clocked the 70 years, mandatory retirement age of Judicial officers.
He has served in that position for less than a year and now the luck being on his side, he has been elevated to the highest office in Uganda ‘s Judiciary.
Zeija was born on Feburary 18, 1969 (50 years old). He is an enrolled as an advocate of the High Court in 1998.
He possesses 21 years experience in the legal career.
In 2016, he was appointed as a High Court Judge and prior to his appointment at the Bench, Zeija served into private legal practice and also taught at various higher institutions of learning in the country.
