Zimbabwe’s COSAFA Cup Dreams Dashed by Kenya’s 2-0 Victory – The East Observer

Zimbabwe’s hopes of advancing to the semi-finals of the COSAFA Cup were dashed as they suffered a 2-0 defeat to Kenya in their final Group B encounter.

The Warriors, who entered the match as favorites with impressive wins over Comoros and Zambia in their earlier fixtures, found themselves unable to replicate their earlier success against a determined Kenyan side.

Despite leading the group with six points before the match, Zimbabwe’s complacency proved costly as they failed to convert numerous scoring opportunities in the first half. This allowed Kenya to capitalize in the second half, scoring two decisive goals that sealed their fate.

Reflecting on the match, Zimbabwe’s coach Jairos Tapera lamented the missed chances, acknowledging the game’s tale of two halves.

“We had plenty of chances in the first half that we should have converted to put pressure on our opponents,” said Tapera. “Despite conceding two goals, I commend the boys for their resilience and effort.”

With this defeat, Zimbabwe finished third in their group, narrowly missing out on a spot in the semi-finals. The top teams from each group and one second-best finisher will advance to the next stage of the tournament.
