BY AMBROSE KWERONDAIN KABALEwww.mknewslink.com—–Emmanuel Sentaro Byamugisha, an independent candidate, was yesterday re-elected Mayor of Kabale Municipality for the 2026–2031 term, according to the Kabale District Returning Officer.
Byamugisha defeated three opponents: Sam Arinaitwe, the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer; Ian Ronald Mugisha, an independent candidate and Deputy Speaker of Kabale District; and Evarist Hussein Monday, who contested on the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) ticket.
While announcing the official results, the Kabale District Returning Officer, Aisha Nansubuga, said Byamugisha polled 8,270 votes out of the total valid votes cast. Sam Arinaitwe came second with 5,292 votes.
The other contenders trailed distantly, with Ian Ronald Mugisha garnering 203 votes, while Evarist Hussein Monday obtained 94 votes.
Speaking after being declared winner, Emmanuel Sentaro thanked the people of Kabale Municipality for entrusting him with another term of office and called upon his former opponents to work together for the development of the municipality. He said his victory was based on his manifesto, which he presented to voters during his campaign, and pledged to prioritise household income improvement for every family.
Byamugisha’s victory marks the first time the National Resistance Movement has lost a top elective seat in Kabale District during this election cycle, after the party swept all parliamentary seats and the district chairpersonship.
Byamugisha first assumed office in 2016, replacing the late Pius Ruhemurana, who had served as Kabale Municipality Mayor for 15 years.
