Defender Joseph Bright Vuni has officially left Uganda Premier League side UPDF FC after a single season with the club.

Vuni, who joined UPDF FC at the beginning of the season on a one-year contract set to expire in June, announced his departure via social media.

“Today I say goodbye to this magnificent club, UPDF FC Uganda,” Vuni began. “I want to thank the club for helping me become a better player and making me feel at home during my time here.”

The former Young Simba FC defender rejoined UPDF FC from Arua Hill and made 25 appearances this season.

Reflecting on his time with the team, Vuni expressed his gratitude, “About one year ago, UPDF FC, a club that will remain in my heart, gave me the amazing opportunity.”

Vuni was a pivotal player for head coach Pius Ngabo’s side, earning the Man of the Match award three times, twice against URA and once against NEC.

He also scored four goals during the season, finding the net against Gaddafi FC (twice), Express FC, NEC FC, and Vipers SC, while also assisting Luutu Abasi Junior’s goal against Express.

“After this year, I can only say thank you to the club, the technical team, and the fans who showed me love during my time at the club,” he added.

Despite a challenging season, UPDF FC narrowly avoided relegation on the final day thanks to Faridi Rashid Achumu’s crucial goal against Wakiso Giants at the Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium.

Vuni’s final appearance for the Bombo-based side was in a 1-0 loss to KCCA at the Philip Omondi Stadium.

An injury sidelined him for the last four matches against Mbarara City, SC Villa, Maroons, and Wakiso Giants.

“Good luck to my teammates who helped me settle in since day one, not only as teammates but as friends,” Vuni stated.

“Today I say goodbye to UPDF FC, but I take with me many memories, lessons, and great moments that will live with me forever. At last, I want to wish UPDF FC success.”

Vuni is the first of many expected departures from UPDF FC as the club looks to rebuild for the upcoming season.
