National T20 League: Wanderers Reach Semis
National Men’s T20 League top scorer Suleman Sharif hit a half century of 58 as Wanderers edged Kutchi Tigers by 2 runs in a nerve-racking encounter on Sunday to book their place in the semifinals.
The two sides squared off at the Lakeside Oval in Entebbe in one of the morning quarterfinal duels, and despite Wanderers losing their first wicket in the second ball of the first Over, they were able to steady their ship; ultimately putting on the board runs they could defend.
Sharif received support majorly from Wassim Butt (53) as they scored 140/7.
Anish Chaudery (32) and Hasin Ashani (34) led the charge for the Tigers in the chase, but came short by a pair of runs, and it was Wanderers captain Ivan Kakande with 3 wickets who mostly made sure of that.
In the other quarterfinal that was played in the morning, Tornado eased past Budo, beating the side by 65 runs to storm the semis.
Calvin Watuwa was a 71 not out for Tornado in that game while Lawrence Sempijja picked 3 wickets for the winners.
Ceylon Lion and Rounders also booked their places in the last four. The former beat Avengers by 83 runs with Cricket Cranes opening batter Robinson Obuya notching 72/55 while the latter shocked Nyakasura in another exciting encounter.
Nyakasura set 136 all out, Brian Asaba scoring 44 of those, but Rounders through opener Zulu Walaza (35) mostly ensured the chase was successful. Rounders completed the chase in the 19.1 Over, winning by 1 wicket.
Rounders will now face Wanderers in the semifinals while Ceylon will take on Tornado.
