NCHE accredits Victoria University to award Law degrees

The National Council for Higher Education has finally accredited Victoria University to start awarding law degrees.In a July, 12 letter to their vice chancellor, the NCHE Executive Director, Prof Mary Okwakol said a council meeting on July, 10 has accredited three new academic programs at Victoria University including Bachelor of Laws, Diploma in Events and Hospitality Management and Bachelor in Events and Hospitality Management.While for law degrees 81 students will be admitted per year, for the diploma and degree in events and hospitality management will take 65 and 80 students respectively per year.“I wish to remind you that under section 119(A) of the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act 2001 (as amended), you shall not run any academic programmes that have not been accredited by National Council for Higher Education (NCHE). Please urge your staff members to implement these programmes in accordance with the regulations of NCHE. Officers of the NCHE shall review the implementation during their periodic administrative and monitoring visits to your institution,” Prof Okwakol said in the letter.Victoria University vice chancellor, Prof Lawrence Muganga welcomed the development.“Ugandans are now invited to join Victoria University and become part of the esteemed legal fraternity.
