The future of Ugandan netball continues to shine brightly, and one of its newest stars is undoubtedly Subra Saidi.
The talented Goal Attacker (GA) from Hamdan Islamic Secondary School was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the recently concluded USSSA Ball Games I 2026 held at Seroma Christian High School.
Despite Hamdan Islamic SS falling 34-30 to St. Mary’s Boarding School Kitende in a thrilling U17 final, Saidi’s performances throughout the tournament left fans, coaches, and scouts in admiration.
In the tense championship encounter, the calm but deadly attacker displayed exceptional movement, sharp finishing, and quick passing combinations that consistently troubled the Kitende defence. Her understanding with the Goal Shooter and ability to switch play at speed became one of the tournament’s standout features.
Born in 2010 at Kuru Hospital in Yumbe District to Mr. Saidi Onama and Mrs. Khadija Aduru, Saidi’s journey to stardom has not been without challenges.
Her education nearly came to a halt while in Primary Four after her parents struggled to raise school fees. However, her talent earned her a lifeline when Katale Progressive School offered her a bursary under the guidance of coach John Bosco Sseguya.
That opportunity transformed her career.
Saidi later joined Hamdan Islamic Secondary School in Senior One in 2024 through the school’s athletes’ scholarship program and immediately broke into the first team setup.
Since then, she has enjoyed a rapid rise, helping the school win two Mukono District U20 championships, two Mukono Region U20 titles, one Mukono District U17 championship, and one Mukono Region U17 crown.
Last year, she played a central role as Hamdan reached its first-ever U17 national final and also secured qualification for the FEASSA Games in Kakamega, Kenya — a milestone she still cherishes deeply.

“My best moment was travelling to Kenya. I had never dreamt about us qualifying. I am still living the dream,” Saidi said.
Away from school competitions, the youngster has also made strides at club level after helping Canan Netball Club qualify for the National Netball Super League last year.
Saidi revealed she admires playing alongside a tall Goal Shooter and singled out Sera Zam of NIC Netball Club as one of the players she looks up to.
The soft-spoken Senior Three student was quick to credit coach Sseguya for her growth and success.
“I want to appreciate my beloved coach John Sseguya who has helped me prove my talent to everyone. He has never left us. He is always with us, helping us improve. I have this accolade because of him,” she said.
Saidi now follows in the footsteps of her Hamdan teammate Alowo Rose, who won the U20 MVP accolade last year.
Her focus now shifts to helping Hamdan qualify for the upcoming FEASSA Games in Morogoro, Tanzania, while also fighting to maintain Canan Netball Club’s status in the Super League.
Off the court, Saidi enjoys soft music and dedicates much of her free time to personal training — a reflection of the discipline and determination that continue to shape her promising career.
