The 2026 Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association U20 Boys Football Championship officially kicked off on Monday in Lira with exciting early morning encounters played across different venues in the town.
Kyadondo Secondary School made a bright start to their campaign with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Kigumba Intensive Secondary School in one of the standout fixtures of the opening round.
Rafael Masoud and Joseph Kakooza found the back of the net for Kyadondo SS, while Adoko Victor scored Kigumba Intensive’s consolation in a tense and entertaining clash.
Meanwhile, tournament hopefuls Madinah Islamic Secondary School were forced to settle for a goalless draw against Kitgum Standard Secondary School as both sides shared the spoils in a tightly contested encounter.
Elsewhere, Greenlight Islamic School announced their intentions in style with a commanding 5-1 victory over Dr. Obote College at Lango College II playground.
At Lango College I, Masindi Secondary School entertained fans with a dominant 6-2 win against Kaserem Secondary School in one of the highest-scoring matches of the morning.
Ssingo Secondary School also got off to a flying start after defeating Bishop Comboni College 3-0. Bashir Nasur scored once before Ngobi Julius added a brace to seal a comfortable victory.
In another closely fought contest, Kicwamba High School edged Bwera Secondary School 1-0 thanks to a decisive strike from Robert Nkasiima at Dr. Obote I playground.
The championship continues with more group stage matches expected to light up Lira as schools battle for early dominance in the prestigious national competition.
