Moving Towards Middle-Income StatusBrussels, 12 June 2026IntroductionUganda’s FY 2026/2027 National Budget of approximately UGX 84.3trillion seeks to accelerate wealth creation, economic transformation,and sustainable growth as Uganda advances towards middle-incomestatus.Economic GrowthStrong growth is expected through commercial agriculture,industrialization, expanding services, digital transformation, and theanticipated commencement of oil production.Commercial AgricultureGovernment continues to support irrigation, quality inputs, extensionservices, value addition, and market access to transform agricultureinto a profitable enterprise.Industrialization and Value AdditionThe budget promotes manufacturing, agro-processing, industrial parks,and value addition to increase productivity, jobs, and exports.Oil, Gas and MiningStrategic investment in oil production, refinery development, andmineral resources is expected to boost revenue and foreign exchangeearnings.Infrastructure DevelopmentContinued investment in roads, energy, and transport infrastructure willimprove connectivity and lower the cost of doing business.Digital TransformationInvestment in digital infrastructure and innovation will improveefficiency, service delivery, and competitiveness.Tourism and InvestmentGovernment will continue promoting tourism and investment as keydrivers of foreign exchange and employment.Human Capital DevelopmentEducation, healthcare, and social services remain essential pillars forlong-term economic transformation.Role of Uganda’s Missions AbroadUganda’s Embassies and Missions abroad should strengtheneconomic and commercial diplomacy, mobilize diaspora remittancesand investment, promote exports, tourism, and attract strategicinvestments that contribute to national development.ConclusionThe FY 2026/2027 Budget demonstrates Uganda’s determination tobuild a modern, productive, and inclusive economy.
