Police in Arua Intensify Hunt for Killers of 16-year Old Pupil

Police in Arua City have intensified the hunt for people who killed a 16-year-old boy and later dumped his body in a swamp. 

The incident according to police occurred on Monday at Nyayi cell, Kati Ward, Ayivu Division in Arua City.  The victim has been identified as Richard Waiswa 16, a primary six pupil of Kova Primary School in Arua City.

Preliminary reports indicate that Waiswa left his home at night and went to visit a friend, who is a primary six pupil of the same school.  However, it is alleged that Waiswa was caught having sexual intercourse by the relatives of the girl, who beat him to death.

Josephine Angucia, the West Nile region police spokesperson in a statement on Thursday said the relatives inflicted multiple cuts on the victim’s head and burnt him leading to his death. She further notes that the attackers carried the body and dumped it in a swamp in Ayivu division.

“When the deceased was in the act of sexual intercourse with the girl, he was caught by the relatives of the girl, who beat and burnt him and inflicted multiple cuts on his head which led to his death. After the deceased had died, it’s alleged that they carried and dumped his body in the Oziava swamp”, Angucia Said.

According to Angucia, the body was discovered by the area LC I Chairperson on Tuesday and later reported the matter to the police. She further added that the suspects are still at large and efforts are in place to arrest them such that they can face the law.

“Suspects are still at large and effort is being put in place to bring them to book. Inquiries continue under Ayivu West Division CRB 179/2024”, Angucia added.

According to the official Annual Crime Report 2023, there was a 5-percent general increase in the murders registered by police countrywide with a total of 4,248 cases registered.
