The 2nd Uganda-Tanzania Oil and Gas Symposium, held on April 18, 2024, showcased a remarkable display of diplomatic camaraderie and strategic vision, emphasizing sustainable partnerships and regional integration.
Hosted by the Uganda High Commission in Dar-Es-Salaam, this symposium, held alongside the 9th Oil and Gas Symposium at the Kampala Serena Hotel & Conference Centre, highlighted the steadfast commitment of both nations to maximizing the transformative potential of their oil and gas reserves.
With the theme, “Establishing linkages for sustainable partnerships,” the symposium convened high-ranking government officials and industry leaders to discuss the crucial role of infrastructure projects, notably the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP), in unlocking Uganda’s oil and gas resources.
Addressing the audience, Ambassador Col (Retired) Fred Mwesigye emphasized the significance of Economic and Commercial Diplomacy in advancing the EACOP project, portraying it not just as a means for oil transportation but as a symbol of unity and shared prosperity for the East African Community and beyond.
Ambassador Mwesigye’s remarks were echoed by Ambassador Richard Kabonero, representing the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stressing the importance of sustainable partnerships in meeting global energy needs and promoting regional unity.
Ambassador Kabonero urged stakeholders to collaborate, address challenges collectively, and adopt a long-term outlook to ensure the alignment of the sector with regional objectives of economic integration and sustainable progress.
The symposium served as a crucial platform to assess developments in the oil and gas industry, explore opportunities for cross-border projects, and strengthen cooperation between Uganda and Tanzania.
With a strong call for unity and collaboration, the symposium illuminated a path toward a brighter, more interconnected future for the East African region.
