Mukono – The Bishop of Mukono, Rt. Rev. Enos Kitto Kagodo, has urged Christians and professionals alike to work diligently, live purposeful lives, and be remembered for stories that bring joy to others while glorifying God.

Bishop Kagodo made the remarks during a thanksgiving and farewell service held on Friday evening for Mr. Robert Kyakulaga, who retired after nearly 11 years of service as Headteacher of Bishop Senior School, Mukono.
“Put God first in your lives and let Him take precedence over everything else—in your homes, at work, and in all other positions. That is how you will attain success,” Bishop Kagodo advised.
The Bishop described Mr. Kyakulaga as a strong leader with a supportive family, noting that he retires as a victor. He commended him for preserving and strengthening the school’s standards and reputation, emphasizing that the institution has produced many distinguished individuals, including three bishops.
Bishop Kagodo also applauded the teaching and non-teaching staff, together with the Board, for their dedication and tireless efforts toward the school’s continued success. He encouraged Mr. Kyakulaga to remember that God’s hand had guided him throughout his journey and that retirement marked the beginning of new opportunities for service in the Church and the education sector.
During the ceremony, Bishop Kagodo announced Mr. John Ssenkuuma Musoke, formerly the Headteacher of St. Peter’s Kibuzi Secondary School in Kayunga District, as the new Headteacher of Bishop Senior School, Mukono.
He encouraged Mr. Musoke to remain close to God and prayerful as he begins his tenure, urging him to work closely with the school Board to ensure sustained growth and progress.
Preaching under the theme, “Know Your Journey,” drawn from Exodus 18:1–16, Bishop Kagodo encouraged Mr. Kyakulaga to recognize that, like Jethro, he has a testimony-filled journey to share with others.
Bishop Emeritus James William Ssebaggala, who also serves as Chancellor of Avance International University, commended Mr. Kyakulaga and the school staff for their diligence, dedication, and commitment to maintaining and improving academic standards.
He praised the staff for nurturing discipline and strong values among students and applauded the Board and Parents-Teachers Association (PTA) for safeguarding the school’s high standards. He urged all stakeholders to continue strengthening the institution’s mission, objectives, and goals.
Bishop Ssebaggala further called upon staff and stakeholders to extend the same support and cooperation to Mr. Musoke, noting that high expectations have been placed upon his leadership. He also announced 85 scholarships for students from Bishop Senior School to pursue studies at Avance International University.
Mr. Kyakulaga began his teaching career at Mityana Secondary School in 1991. On February 15, 1998, he joined Bishop Senior School, Mukono, with a mission to improve science performance. Over the years, he served in various capacities, including Director of Studies and Deputy Headteacher, before eventually being appointed Headteacher.
In his acceptance speech, Mr. Musoke thanked the Bishop for entrusting him with the leadership of the school.
“I come with valuable networks and partnerships that will enable us to elevate this institution to greater heights,” he said.
Addressing the staff, Mr. Musoke pledged to work collaboratively with them to achieve the school’s goals.
“Staff, you are the driving force of this institution. I pledge to work diligently alongside you so that we can achieve our shared goals. I therefore urge you to remain united as one team and to support one another,” he said.
Reflecting on his tenure, Mr. Kyakulaga highlighted several achievements realized through God’s grace, including the development of a highly motivated staff team, a disciplined and academically focused student body, a fourfold increase in annual school revenue, and significant physical and technological infrastructure improvements.
He expressed gratitude to the Diocese of Mukono for the trust, moral support, and spiritual guidance extended to him throughout his leadership.
“On March 6, 2015, the leadership of this school was handed over to me amidst anxiety and fear of the unknown. I am excited that today, June 5, 2026, I have handed over the leadership of this mighty school with happiness and confidence that all is well and will remain well,” he said.
The thanksgiving ceremony was attended by Maama Catherine Kitto, the Provost Very Rev. Canon Godfrey Ssengendo, Diocesan Secretary Rev. John Musoke, Seeta Archdeacon Rev. Canon Edward Balamaze Kironde, clergy, lay readers, Headteachers from various schools, Board members, parents, and students.
