The office fell vacant in 2022 following the elevation of Prof. Jude Lubega to the position of Vice Chancellor. Since then, the university has operated without a substantive Deputy Vice Chancellor as the Board of Trustees undertook a comprehensive search for a suitable candidate.
Announcing the appointment, the Chairperson of the Board of Trustees, Mr. Muhammad Kalyango, said the recruitment process was deliberate and thorough to ensure the university secured a competent leader capable of advancing its mission.
“The search for a Deputy Vice Chancellor has been a deliberate and thorough process. We are pleased to welcome one of our own to this important office, and we are confident that Dr. Bbosa possesses the leadership, experience, and commitment necessary to advance the University’s vision and strategic objectives,” Mr. Kalyango said.
The University Secretary, Mr. Francis Ssengendo, noted that the appointment was made in accordance with the institution’s governing legal framework.
“The appointment has been made in accordance with Section 48 of the Nkumba University Charter, 2007,” Mr. Ssengendo said.
Dr. Bbosa brings extensive experience in higher education leadership, academic administration, research, and institutional development. Throughout his service at Nkumba University, he has played a significant role in promoting academic excellence, quality assurance, strategic planning, and student-centred learning.
Having joined the university in 2008 as a student, Dr. Bbosa steadily rose through the academic ranks, serving as an Assistant Lecturer, Lecturer, and later Senior Lecturer. He subsequently held several leadership positions, including Head Coach of the University Football Team, Marketing Manager, and Director of the Kampala Campus.
One of his notable achievements came in 2024 when he guided the university football team to its first-ever University Football League title, earning Nkumba University the opportunity to represent Uganda at the All-African University Games in Lagos, Nigeria.
University officials described Dr. Bbosa as a distinguished academic, administrator, and researcher whose long service to the institution has given him a deep understanding of its operations, culture, and aspirations.
In his new role, Dr. Bbosa is expected to provide strategic leadership as the university transitions to a fully Competence-Based Curriculum, a move aimed at enhancing graduate employability and aligning academic programmes with industry needs.
According to a statement dated June 5, 2026, issued by the University Secretary, staff, students, and the entire Nkumba University community have been urged to accord Dr. Bbosa their full support, cooperation, and goodwill as he assumes the responsibilities of the office.
His appointment is expected to strengthen the university’s leadership structure and contribute to the achievement of its long-term strategic goals.
