Jacob Oboth Oboth Declared Speaker of 12th Parliament


Kololo, Kampala– Hon. Jacob Markson Oboth Oboth, West Budama Central Member of Parliament, has been elected the Speaker of the 12th Parliament at the house’s first sitting held at Kololo ceremonial grounds.

During an election presided over by Chief Justice Dr. Flavian Zeija, Oboth Oboth obtained 441 votes, Paul Mwiru 60 votes, Norbert Mao 15 votes and the spoilt votes were 3 votes.
During nomination, Oboth’s name was done by Hon. Jessica Alupo, the Katakwi Woman Member of Parliament and it was seconded by Hon. Frank Tumwebaze, the member of Parliament for Kibale East.
“Under my leadership, we will cultivate a culture of absolute integrity and zero tolerance to corruption anchored in President Museveni’s clarion call to corruption-free Parliament in the next 5 years.” Remarked Oboth in his maiden speech
Oboth promised that he will be serving all Ugandans regardless of their political affiliation adding that he is a Speaker for all including all those that didn’t vote him.
“The Speaker’s chair is not a throne; it is a servant’s post. My role now is to collaborate with all of you to make sure that the voices of over 48 million are represented and respected”.

Immediately after being sworn in, he resumed office by presiding over the election of his Deputy, Thomas Tayebwa’s name has been nominated by Nebbi Woman Member of Parliament, Phiona Nyamutooro being seconded by Hon. Robert Migadde from Buvuuma Islands. Currently the nominations for candidates on the same position is still underway.
